Who is The Big Island Dance Council (BIDC)?
Founded in 1975 by Earnest T. Morgan who was the first state-wide Dance Coordinator for the Hawai’i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
What do they do?
Through its storied fifty-year history, BIDC famously promoted dance of many genres through its annual Dance Extravaganza, held from 1976 – 1991, the premiere community dance event on the Big Island during those years.
Committed to Youth Development
BIDC’s Dance Education Program hired Dance specialists to teach dance in the schools to children in K-12 grades around the island from 1978-2020—for forty-two years! In its heyday, BIDC taught 4,000 students annually. Over 50 years of continuously serving the dance aspirations of 4-year-olds to 74-year-olds.
BIDC 2025
BIDC 2025 will sponsor a newly conceived and resurrected Dance Extravaganza on October 25, at 5 pm at the UH-Hilo Performing Arts Center.
It will also support youth-driven Hip-hop events in July called “For the Love” and in October called “Ride the Brakes”.
Workshops in improvisation, Jazz, Hiphop, Belly Dance Fusion, Ballroom, and more will be held troughout the 2025 anniversary year. Become a BIDC member and enjoy discounts at these workshops.
