As part of it's 50th Anniversary offerings, BIDC is co-sponsoring Halifu Osumare to give a Presentation and Book Signing on her latest book: "Dancing the Afrofuture: Hula, HipHop and the Dunham Legacy on Aug. 14, 4-6 pm, UHH's UCB 100 classrpick-up at the presentation.


Dr. Osumare studied hula with Kumu Ehulani Stephany, while living on the Big Island and worked on her doctorate in American Studies at University of Hawaii-Manoa. Her reading & presentation will explore her two-island lifestyle, transitioning from artist to academic scholar. She became known for bringing the Hawaiian and Black communities on the Big Island together. She currently resides in Sacramento, California. BOOK SIGNING & RECEPTION TO FOLLOW
