MINI-SCHOLARSHIPS &

CHOREOGRAPHERS AWARD

MINI-SCHOLARSHIPS: BIDC Mini-scholarships can be used to support dance activities such as classes, tuition, room and board, airfare, or other aid for dance training, as deemed appropriate by the BIDC Scholarship Committee. Scholarships will range in awards up to $100.00. Recipients must be Big Island residents, BIDC members and between the ages of 10 and 25.

Deadline: Application must be post marked no later than : May 31, 2008

CHOREOGRAPHERS AWARD: The purpose of this award is to encourage the efforts and talent of a choreographer in the Big Island dance community. This award is to be used by the recipient to support a choreography project. Recipients must be Big Island residents and BIDC members.

Mission

The Big Island Dance Council supports, promotes and encourages the art of dance on the island of Hawai'i through education, classes, performances and networking.

Purposes

1. To develop, foster, and promote quality dancing on the Big Island;

2. To provide an opportunity to all people of the county to engage in the art of dancing;

3. To assist in the presentation of dance performances of high artistic quality;

4. To contribute to the dance and movement education of the community-at-large;

5. To act as an information source for persons and organizations engaged in Movement activity;

6. To receive, administer, and expend funds from governmental, community, and
private sources in the interest of body movement;

7. To engage in all such acts as are necessary to foster the art of dancing.

The Big Island Dance Council (BIDC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1975. Each year BIDC touches the lives of thousands of Hawai'i residents through dance education programs in schools, guest artist workshops, professional and student performances and community service projects. A volunteer Board of Directors, comprised of Big Island dancers, educators and community leaders, run the organization.
